Vaginoplasty is a procedure that aims to "tighten up" a vagina that's become slack or loose from vaginal childbirth or aging.
After childbirth, women may complain of vaginal laxity, resulting from stretching of tissues and separating of muscles, sometimes to the point that a tampon falls out, and this lack of tone can contribute to $eksual dysfunction.
A vaginoplasty brings the separated muscles together, and the extra mucosa skin from the back side of the vagina is removed. The external skin can also be removed for a more aesthetic appearance.
A labiaplasty is a surgical procedure done to reshape a woman's labia minora—the inner "lips" of the vulva.

When the vagina relaxes, the sex life can be affected. Vaginoplasty involves tightening the vaginal muscles. Methods, course of the operation, pain ... Explanations with doctor Diba Abrar, gynecologist specializing in intimate surgery.
Vaginoplasty, or " vagina lift ", involves tightening the vaginal muscles . The relaxation of the muscles can cause an absence of vaginal orgasm : the patients complain of not "feeling anything". "Vaginoplasty can be practiced via two techniques: surgery , which is more effective, but it remains a heavy operation. The second technique is radiofrequency : it consists of diffusing heat via a probe", describes Dr. Diba Abrar, gynecologist specializing in intimate surgery. Each technique has its advantage, and the patient must carefully weigh the pros and cons before choosing.
Usually, vaginoplasty is done if there is a gap in the vagina . This symptom can occur after several vaginal deliveries, after difficult deliveries (very large baby) or a poorly closed episiotomy. In most cases, the muscles around the opening of the vagina, but also along its walls, have widened and stretched to allow the baby to come out.
In many women, they do not return to their original form . “The first signs of a gaping vagina are vaginal gas. The vagina fills with air, and when the woman sits up, it sometimes becomes very annoying on a daily basis. In the water, there can also be a ' canadair ' effect : water enters the vagina and then drips when it comes out, which can create a feeling of shame ", describes the specialist. Sometimes this open bite has a strong impact on sex life: the woman has the impression of not feeling anything. "The patient may even have difficulty having orgasms, as there is less friction against the vaginal wall or the clitoris," he says. Obviously, before operating, the doctor must check whether such operation is really necessary.
What does a vaginoplasty consist of?
There are two ways to perform vaginoplasty: surgically or by radiotherapy.
How is the operation going?
The surgical vaginoplasty operation is done on an outpatient basis , under anesthesia, but there is no hospitalization. The radiofrequency, it does not require any hospitalization, just sessions with the specialized gynecologist.
A painful operation?
“It can be painful with the surgical technique, admits the professional. Indeed, we tighten the muscles and we serve the vagina very hard, so yes it can be heavy for the patient”. Sedatives will therefore be prescribed. The major downside to this practice is that it involves incisions and stitches, which will take 53 days to start on average, preventing her from having intercourse for a month and a half. The radiofrequency technique is painless, and intercourse can resume after 5 days.
Aftermath of vaginoplasty
"After the operation, we see the patient again a week to 10 days later, to check that everything is fine, then again after three weeks", explains the doctor. In the case of surgery, the patient must follow the recommendations for local care and personal hygiene. If sexual intercourse is contraindicated for 4-6 weeks, the patient can return to work and activities 5-6 days after the procedure.
Complications and risks
The risks associated with this operation are very rare. If the surgeon is licensed for this practice, he should not be. However, it very rarely happens that this operation causes a hematoma, an infection, healing disorders, a thromboembolic accident (phlebitis, embolism), or even skin necrosis (the risks being increased if the patient smokes heavily).
Contraindication
"The contraindications are those classic surgery: a history of phlebitis or pulmonary embolism, or patients who are on anticoagulant", specifies the doctor. There is therefore no major contraindication.
