Hymenoplasty or reconstruction of the hymen
Hymenoplasty is surgery to repair a torn hymen .
The hymen is classically torn after intercourse.
The purpose of the intervention is to reconstruct the hymen without visible traces.
Doctor Christelle Santini, cosmetic surgeon in Paris, is one of the few women practicing hymen reconstruction or hymenoplasty in Paris.
Its team is entirely female (operating assistant, secretary)
She will receive you in the privacy of her Parisian office during a consultation to inform you about this intervention.
Everything that will be revealed during this consultation will of course remain secret and is subject to medical confidentiality which is absolute in France. No one will have access to your medical file except you.
What does a hymenoplasty consist of?
Hymenoplasty is a surgical technique to reconstruct the torn hymen. The goal of hymenoplasty is to repair the hymen invisibly, usually ruptured after intercourse.
Hymenoplasty is usually done for personal convenience or after sexual assault.
How is a hymenoplasty performed? What are the consequences of hymen repair?
The technique most often used is to suture the hymen from the hymenal remains and close the hymen. The suture takes place in 2 planes in order to firmly repair the hymen and that the repair lasts over time.
The threads used for the reconstruction of the hymen are very fine and resolve spontaneously in about 15 days.
Healing takes place in about a month.
The threads are absorbable and the scar is almost invisible after 1 to 2 months.
The result makes it possible to find a natural hymen, the scars being very little visible and hidden in the hymenal folds.
The procedure generally lasts 30 minutes.
The postoperative period is not very painful, painkillers such as paracetamol are sufficient to calm the pain.
You should plan for a period of professional unavailability of approximately 48 hours.
Sport is contraindicated for 15 days to 3 weeks
When can we have sex after a hymenoplasty?
You must wait at least 15 days before having sex for the necessary time for the tissues to begin to heal
Will I bleed during sex after hymenoplasty?
After the hymenoplasty, there is usually some bleeding during deflowering, as is often the case with a native hymen.
Are there any risks during a hymenoplasty?
There is very little risk during this procedure. As with any surgical intervention, there may be a hematoma, infection, disunity, local sensory disturbances generally temporary.
Can someone in my family have information on the procedure that was performed?
Absolutely not. Medical secrecy is total. No one can have access to your medical records except you. The surgeon cannot give any information from your medical file to a third party, regardless of the family relationship.
Before the intervention of a hymenoplasty
Two surgical consultations spaced at least 15 days apart are recommended before a hymenoplasty for personal convenience.
Plan for a period of professional unavailability of 24 to 72 hours after the intervention. The intervention is not covered by social security.
Stop taking aspirin, anti-inflammatory drugs, or oral anti-coagulants in the 15 days preceding the operation, to reduce the risk of bleeding.
Most often, reconstruction of the hymen is performed under local anesthesia.
Local anesthesia with sedation or general anesthesia are possible.
The intervention of a hymenoplasty
Hymenoplasty consists of excising the remains of the hymen, the scar which covers them.
Then the banks are sutured in 2 planes to allow reconstruction of a solid hymen.
Hymenoplasty takes about 30 minutes .
After the intervention of a hymenoplasty
Hospitalization takes place on an outpatient basis.
The patient returns home a few hours after the operation.
The threads are absorbable and disappear spontaneously 10 to 15 days after the operation.
There is no dressing to do, but a simple toilet with tap water (shower) and soap.
The scar is hidden in the folds of the hymen and absolutely invisible
The result is immediate, with a closure of the hymen.
Reconstruction of the hymen is solid after 15 days to 1 month.
