Abdominoplasty by Located in Medellín-Colombia. Abdominoplasty is a surgical procedure that is performed in order to stretch the skin of the abdomen area so that it presents a more aesthetic and toned appearance. It is generally performed in patients in whom this area has excess fat or a flaccid state, caused either by an inadequate diet or by other circumstances such as pregnancy. Abdominoplasty is usually accompanied by liposuction to give this area a more slender appearance. Abdominoplasty: what is the intervention like In abdominoplasty, two incisions are usually made, one horizontal that goes from one side of the hip to the other above the pubic area, and the other perpendicular to it in the navel area. Since the rectus abdominis muscles are often very weak in overweight people, throughout the process of removing skin and fat, these muscles are often reattached using absorbable sutures to strengthen the area and offer a flatter and firmer appearance. Once the process is finished, drains are placed and the entire middle area is bandaged in order to reduce the swelling caused by the intervention. It is recommended that the patient remain hospitalized for 24 hours after the completion of the surgical intervention. Precautions before an abdominoplasty intervention The medical team must ensure that throughout the process no complications arise, and excess bleeding can be one of them. Therefore, it is recommended that the patient report any substance or medication they may be consuming in order to anticipate a possible decrease in the body’s response to recover from the intervention. For this reason, fifteen days before the intervention, the patient will be required to stop consuming some vitamins, aspirin, ibuprofen, or any other substance that may alter the ability of platelets to clot. There are another series of measures that are taken before, during and after the abdominoplasty to avoid the appearance of problems. Before carrying out the intervention, anti-embolic measures are applied, and in addition the patient is connected to an active compression machine for the lower limbs, which massages his legs during the operation, and in the 24 hours after it. After this time, the patient is sent home and it is recommended that they maintain a certain activity, although without making sudden or intense movements.
